DASD Alumni Spotlight: Ashley Swearer Deible

What are some of your favorite memories from your time at the DuBois Area School District?

Spending time with all of my friends during school festivities.  Homecoming, football games and proms for sure! The in general school spirit vibe of the DuBois Area Schools.

Were there any teachers, coaches, or classes that had a lasting impact on you?

Mr. Lieber, he always had a great answer to anything you asked that was classroom or life-related.

What activities, clubs, or sports were you involved in as a student?

Track for a short period! I also did ballet at Marcy's School of Dance for a very long time!

Tell us about your current career or professional role. What does a typical day look like for you?

I am a florist and the owner of Roses on Main in DuBois.  A typical day for me is checking the computer, replying to emails, making sure that we have all the necessary things for the week ahead for orders.  Checking in at my retail location and workshop to make sure things are running smoothly.  Somedays I get to leave the shop and do the flower deliveries which is always great to see the smiles on people's faces receiving their flowers. If there are weddings or funeral work things can get a little stressful making sure everything is in perfect condition and arrives on time where they need to go.

What led you to pursue this career path?

During Covid a friend that had started the flower shop had asked me to come give her a hand from time to time at the shop. I ended up falling in love with flowers and the design aspect of things so when she decided she wanted to go a different direction in life, buying the shop seemed like the best route to go!

What do you find most rewarding about your work?

Honestly, it's very rewarding to see everyone's happy faces with the blooms they get.  You can't really have a bad day when you work with flowers! It is very stressful at times but the good days definitely outweigh the bad.

Have you received any recognitions, awards, or achieved milestones you're especially proud of?

We have been nominated Best in Tri-County now for 2023, 2024 and 2025 with the gold medal and also, we have been nominated for readers' choice award as well the same years! We have the absolute best customers around and couldn't do it all without them!

How did your experiences at the DuBois Area School District help prepare you for your career or further education?

High school gave me the fundamental tools needed to graduate and go to Lock Haven University.

If you could go back to high school, what goal-setting advice do you wish someone had given you?

Just keep going.  No matter what you are struggling with or trying to get through you can do hard things!

How do you define success, and how has that definition evolved over time?

Success to me these days is the freedom and flexibility of being there for my children and family.

What skills or habits do you believe are most important for students to develop while they're in school?

Life skills and learn how to invest your money!

How do you stay connected to the DuBois Area School District community or give back to others?

Both of my children are students at the DuBois Area High School now; we get to donate through our businesses to help out with fundraising or anything else we can.
