Here are the birds that you need to know for the PA Bird ID quiz. They are the same birds you practiced identifying previously. Your quiz will be tomorrow.
Due:
Use the resources available to identify the 27 Pennsylvania birds in the Powerpoint. Incidentally, these are the same birds you will need to know for our first bird quiz next week.
Due:
Please watch the videos on bird identification. For each video, I want you to write down three things you learned. I have included a Google doc for you to write down the things you learned or you can use the worksheet.
Due:
I have attached a Google slide presentation that has pictures of five birds that I would like you to identify. All are found in DuBois. You can list their names on a sheet of scratch paper.
There are several ways you can do this. In the days before the internet, you had to use a book to identify the bird. This method, while not the fastest or easiest, still works well today. Feel free to use this method if you have a bird ID book available.
If you don't have a book or field guide available, there are several websites that can be helpful. I included a link for the online bird guide from Cornell All About Birds. When you get to the page, it has a brown button you can click to take you to their bird identification guide. The button says "Get Instant ID Help".
Another website that is helpful is whatbird.com. They have a search engine that you use by clicking on characteristics of the bird. It's link is also included below as "Birds of North America - Whatbird.com.
Perhaps the easiest bird identification guide I have seen is an app created by the National Audubon Society. Their app has a very useful and easy to navigate guide that is based on characteristics that you observe and it updates the possible birds as you go through it. I have included a link to the apps website. Please do not feel obligated to download the app.
If you need help, let me know.

Hello everyone.
The "Mammal ID Powerpoint" file goes through 28 common Pennsylvania mammals. It includes a picture and a few interesting facts for each mammal. Use this to learn the mammals that you are responsible for on the quiz.
The "Mammal Identification Practice Quiz" is a numbered Powerpoint that contains the same pictures that you will have to identify on the quiz. You can use this file to practice for your quiz on Wednesday. Grab a piece of paper and practice a few times. There is a key you can use to check yourself when you are finished.

Today is the review for the test on mammals that will be posted tomorrow. This was handed out last Wednesday and I have additional paper copies for you if you need one. The test is set up in Google forms and is worth 30 points. The test includes 13 multiple choice questions, 12 matching on the orders, and one question where you have to choose five characteristics of mammals from a list.
I made the review up directly from the test, so it is the key to success. I will not collect the review, but I may allow you to use it on the test. I have included the Mammal Powerpoint to allow you to look up answers on the review. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi guys. I'm posting the assignment for today and tomorrow. We will begin the year by taking a look at mammals. Mammals are an incredibly diverse group of organisms with tons of interesting traits. Pennsylvania is home to 66 species of mammals.
The guided reading that is attached does a great job of highlighting the important characteristics of mammals. I have included a pdf of the text section that you need.
